Gratuity Calc UAE is a free, independent website for people who work in the UAE private sector and want to know what their end of service gratuity should be before they sit down with HR.
Why this site exists
Gratuity is often the largest single payment an employee receives in the UAE, and most people see the figure for the first time on the day they are asked to sign for it. The rule behind it is short, but the details trip people up: which salary counts, what happens to a part year, whether resigning changes anything, and where the two-year ceiling comes in.
We built the calculator so that anyone can check the number in a minute, see how each year of service adds up, and walk into the final settlement conversation with their own working in hand.
We are not MOHRE
This website is privately run. It is not owned by, connected to or endorsed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) or any other government body, and it cannot access your labour file, your contract or your complaint.
The name describes what the tool does: it applies the gratuity rules that MOHRE enforces for the private sector. For anything official, including complaints, permits and your registered contract, use mohre.gov.ae or the MOHRE app.
How the calculator works
You enter your basic salary, your contract type, how the job ended and your first and last working days. The calculator then:
- walks through your service one year at a time, starting on your first working day;
- gives each of the first five years 21 days of basic pay, and each later year 30 days;
- counts a part year in proportion to the days worked;
- shows AED 0 if you have not completed one full year;
- stops the total at two years of basic salary, the legal maximum.
Everything runs in your browser. The figures you type are not sent to us, saved or shared. Our privacy policy explains this in full.
The result is an estimate. Your employer's payroll records, any unpaid leave and the wording of your contract decide the final amount.
Use it like an app
The site can be installed on your phone or computer and opens like any other app, with the calculator one tap away. After your first visit it also works without an internet connection.
- Android (Chrome): open the menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. Where your browser supports it, an Install app button also appears at the top of the page.
- iPhone or iPad (Safari): tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- Computer (Chrome or Edge): select the install icon in the address bar.
Installing is optional and free. Nothing extra is collected when you do.
How we check our content
Employment rules affect people's money, so we hold our guides to a simple standard:
- Start from the law. Each guide is written from the legal text it explains, mainly Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Employment Relationships, its executive regulations and later amendments. Where a different regime applies, such as domestic workers, the DIFC or ADGM, we say so and name it.
- Say which rule we are relying on. Where it helps, we give the article number so you can read it yourself or quote it to your employer.
- Mark what is uncertain. If a point depends on your contract, on a court's view or on how a free zone applies its own rules, we say that instead of giving a confident answer that may not fit your case.
- Date every page. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. When the law changes, we update the affected pages and change the date.
- Fix mistakes quickly. If you find an error, tell us. We correct confirmed errors as soon as we can.
What we do not do
We do not give legal advice on individual cases, act for employees or employers, or contact MOHRE or your company for you. If you are in a dispute, your first stop is a complaint to MOHRE, which is free. Our guide to filing a labour complaint walks through it.
How the site is funded
The calculator and guides are free to use. We do not sell your data and we do not accept payment to change what our guides say. If advertising is added in future, it will be clearly marked and this page will be updated.
